(male announcer) live from the bay area here is your kron 4 news >> the stories we're piling this morning wednesday february 27th, the chief cause at the darkest day in the history of the santa cruz police department. two officers killed in a line of duty and the man who shot them is also dead. >> we have live team coverage on the story and we're learning exactly what happened. we're also hearing from residents in the area who were shocked and devastated the this could happen so close to home. also we will find out about the officers and they leave behind. we will share that information when our team coverage continues in just a moment. >> first a quick check on weather and traffic >> we are taking a look at

the ride on highway 880 here. and the southbound direction, as traffic is backed up and maybe getting a little bit better. the left lanes have been cleared. there was a motorcycle accident blocking the three left hand lanes. it is still backed up to castro valley on 238, 880 southbound backup to marina boulevard. all the emergency vehicles have cleared the scene. it is possible that this backup could clear a bit. >> and quick with a wednesday forecast, but temperatures in the 30's and 40's. this afternoon will be a little cooler than what we saw yesterday. plenty of sunshine, warm as temperatures return on friday. i will have the extended forecast coming up in just a few minutes. >> 7:01 a.m. and a developing story and san francisco where the cleanup continues of water and mud

after a water main break cause a big mess. this is 15th avenue and walnut and west portal. jackie sissel is live out there this morning as the crews are working and people are waking up. >> it is a mess out here, you can see crews from the city out here trying to clean up the corner at 15 in walnut. there's a mountain of mud that came pouring down into this neighborhood. some of the cars actually over the top of the doors of how much water and mud came down this area. the actual break is a water main break a 16 in. water main burst. that is around 230 this morning, there is a cynical here. all of the mud and all the water came careening down. you could see how deep the mud is here, the stop sign and car here the water

level was about 3 ft. deep in this area. basically, if inundated homes and cars and the street itself. here is the simple that it caused around 230 this morning. there's a lot of work to be done to repair that. as far as homeowners are concerned you can see what they are fighting with. the garages and all of their downstairs bedrooms and front rooms are often inundated with water. i had a chance to talk to a resident out here days in blue -- jason woo, then just a few weeks ago >> it comes up to about 90. we're trying to prevent it

works people hundreds of thousands of gallons of water rushing into the streets. not only streets, also cars. you can see some of the damage. that is in sight of one person's garage. low-lying bedrooms and areas inside these homes, all the water came to the bottom of the hell and collected in some of these garages and homes. one person that i talked to, jason will move in two weeks ago. he was painting the house and has out got about 3 ft. of water inside of it. he has that to deal with. the worst news as i said is about three or four homes have been yellow tagged out here. they will have to have some engineers come out here and check the status of it. with this amount of water and mud out here, they hope that the ground did not settle, that may be the case. you did see the water
